1200ºC

1200ºC was a remarkable two weeks outdoor event that combined the different arts of glas, photography, video, literature and music. For the participants the event in the heart of Bucharest posed a great challenge.

MAYA

Maya Decorative Art

Conceived as a state of misperception of human reality in hindu mythology, maya casts over these newly born pieces the stong scent of Asia.

This exotic inspiration is not the only novelty MAYA brings. It also means a new technique - that of adding pieces of glass onto the hot vase, recently pulled out of the furnace, thus giving it the sandalwood appearance.

“This is the magic of maya : its duality…”

Madrid 11.03

Nemtoi Gallery, in collaboration with Cervantes Institute and the Spanish Embassy in Bucharest, organizes the exhibition entitled “Madrid 11.03” by artist Ioan Nemtoi.

The exhibition is the homage Ioan Nemtoi brings to nonviolence and art, the central work having previously been shown in Hague (April 2004).

“…I was affected by the Madrid attacks. For a moment everybody was shocked at the fact that violence is so real and so close, able to hurt any of us. Art cannot turn its back, and, without claiming to change anything, I tried to voice part of the human suffering and struggle” says Ioan Nemtoi.

Nemtoi at McLaren

My Extravaganza, the first solo show in the UK of the Romanian glass artist Ioan Nemtoi at Oxo Tower Wharf in April 2004, was relocated to McLaren Technology Centre, the new McLaren headquarters in Woking, Surrey, at the invitation of Ron Dennis, CEO and Chairman of McLaren Group.

The exhibition reunites 25 glass installations adapted contextually for the space at McLaren, weighting more than 50 tons and composed of approximately 10,000 separate elements of glass.

“McLaren Technology Centre is a fabulous high-tech location and my works add a touch of colour to it. They are the organic element that the space needed.”

Ioan Nemtoi:

“When I first saw this place it struck me as an open environment that gives you this impression of outdoor space when you are actually inside the building. The construction and the landscape are so perfectly connected. When you walk on the Boulevard you can actually feel nature invade you and on the ceiling you can even see the reflection of the sun in the lake.” Ioan Nemtoi

MyExtravaganza

My Extravaganza, installation and sound surround, the.gallery@oxo and Bargehouse, Oxo Tower Wharf, London, UK.

My Extravaganza is the first solo show introducing functional objects in the.gallery@oxo alongside breathtaking large exhibitions displayed over four floors of Bargehouse.

“My extravaganza is working with fragile matter to create enduring forms in such inspiring proximity” says Ioan Nemtoi

The cool white walls of the.gallery@oxo provide the perfect backdrop for an eruption of colour for which the artist’s functional and decorative glassware is renowned.

Across the courtyard from the gallery, visitors experience the other world of Nemtoi as they enter the raw, industrial Bargehouse.  Over four floors Nemtoi’s monumental installation work is displayed.

This is an awe-inspiring world of form, shape and texture.  Nemtoi’s three-dimensional structures are united by an ideal expression of proportions and symmetry. Set somewhere between doubt and revelation, doom and redemption, the work has a reflective quality of someone endlessly questioning themselves.

With a fascination for the interplay of opaque and transparent surfaces, and the reality – captured in the work’s reflective quality - Nemtoi brings together the special relationship between shape, colour and meaning
